One famous place is Sang Kee Congee Shop (生記粥品專家). Congee is the common food for sick local people.

In Thailand there is soup rice (Khao Tom - ข้าวต้ม). Thai style is like the local Chiu Chow style. Congee is creamier.
|
You still can find some rice in the soup but Cantonese style is different. It is cooked for
much longer time & the texture like cream soup - a combination of rice & water so it is much
easier to digest by weak body.

This is cuisine of Chaozhou / Tejiu (the largest Chinese community in Thailand). At the end of Wilmar Street, on Connaught Road West, which used to be the sea front, there was a pier. There were many rice wholesale shops there and there was a need of porters (coolies) to carry bags of rice from the boats to the stores – and most of those were Chaozhou people. (Thanks to Anthony for those details)
